Anders Somby is a guitarist with a degree in Musicology from the University of Oslo. He now also writes books.
He has published three novels in Norwegian and English editions about the investigator Herlov Holm, the short story collection Ghost Stories from Sápmi and Other Tales, and the Norwegian and English edition of the short story EDDA.
ABOUT THE BOOKS:
The Herlov Holm books are a mixed literary genre of parody, humour, and mystery: "Cozy-crime".
Herlov Holm is the Norwegian Sherlock Holmes, residing at Maridalsveien 221 B. With his assistant, Jon Matson.
These two main characters are inspired by the characters and environments created by authors such as Arthur Conan Doyle and P. G. Wodehouse.
Despite the somewhat parodic nature, Holm and Matson stand firm as independent characters in Norwegian entertainment literature.
The themes of the books revolve around the conflict between myth and reality. The mystery in Herlov Holm's cases often lies in whether the phenomena they encounter are possible.
The comedy is found in the relationship between the master detective and his somewhat younger, medically-trained assistant. After an internal conflict with Holm, Holm discreetly guides Jon Matson in the direction he believes Matson should go.
